Pawel Szulencki Search Engine Optimization/Marketing blog.
Welcome back! Thanks for sticking by.
Google have released a special search engine with indexes from year 2001. That means that you can search the web as it looked like in 2001. Although the index is not exactly as it was in 2001, it is a very good approximation of its database 7 years ago.
In honor of our 10th birthday, we’ve brought back our oldest available index. Take a look back at Google in January 2001.

1,326,920,000 web pages - thats how much Google managed to index since they started to crawl the web until year 2001. In 2008 they hold about 40 billion web pages.
“…we’ve brought back our oldest available index” - Ok, now you may wander, why the oldest index Google have is from 2001 and not from 1998 when the company started. “Well, for various technical reasons that are too boring to go into, earlier versions of our index aren’t readily accessible.”
The 2001 Google search engine will be available only for 1 month and no ads are displayed:
Sphere: Related ContentWe’re not displaying ads for Google’s 2001 search results as it’s meant to be a lighthearted way to celebrate Google’s 10th birthday.
