Google have just released a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) guide ebook that outlines “around a dozen common areas that webmasters might consider optimizing”. The ebook is free of charge and consists of 22 pages with images.

We thought it’d be useful to create a compact guide that lists some best practices that teams within Google and external webmasters alike can follow that could improve their sites’ crawlability and indexing.

The guide covers the following aspects of SEO:

  • Title tags
  • Description meta tags
  • URl structure
  • Navigation
  • Quality content
  • Anchor text
  • Heading tags
  • Images optimization
  • Robots.txt
  • rel=”nofollow” attribute

All those aspects are described in more detail to help users understand the basics of organic search engine optimization for Google and other search engines.

What it means when Google releases a seo guide?

That means that above aspects of websites do matter to Google search engine and they try to educate people to get even more relevant search results. That way more websites may be fitting the Google standards and that may bring the relevancy higher and thats what Google wants to achieve. They make money on relevance of their search results afterall.

I think its a good way to educate webmasters and show them that search engine optimization is not “black magic” and that it is a legitimate way of bringing you website higher is Google search results.

Read the guide and tell me what you think about it.
