If you didn’t know, Google recently started a Coversion University with Google Analytics Individual Qualification (IQ) test. It consists of a set of online presentations that you can watch free of charge and when you feel knowledgeable enough, you can take a test which cost $50 one time fee. I just finished that course and passed the test and i wanted to share some thoughts about it.
I think that the presentation part is a very good resource of knowledge about Google Analytics, although it could be also available as a text version for those who want to read more about Google Analytics. The slides go too fast sometimes and its hard to read them and listen to the speaker at the same time. Nevertheless its a valuable source of information and you can learn a lot by watching those presentations.
The test part covered all information that you can find in the presentations, so it is advised to watch the presentations before you start the test. The test is 90 minutes long and consists of 70 questions. You can pause the test and if you fail at the first time you can re-take the test only once during 30 days. You have to pay $50 each time you re-take the test. The passing score is 75% and upon successful completion of the test you will be awarded with the following certificate as a PDF file:

On the bottom left corner it shows the number of certification. I am the 258th person to pass the test

@Frank Polenose: I think its worth doing. You even dont have to take the exam, the course itself is free of charge and its very valuable source of information about Google Analytics. I think its very useful for everyone.

This is interesting. So if I take the exam, will I pass? As long as it is free of charge, I am fine with it

@Robert Drózd: Hi Robert, also congratulations as you are also GA certified individual. I agree that the IQ certificate should be easier accessible as it is with Google Advertising Professional. That pdf diploma is not enough to show to other people.

Congratulations for passing the test and thank you for sharing us the experience. Perhaps this could be the next big time as far as IT certifications(like a Microsoft certified or Cisco Network certified).

This sounds like something I need. I’m just getting started, but there’s no reason not to level myself up early :).
Did you find out anything new as a result of the presentations? It’s fine if you don’t want to share and you’d rather we spend the $50 first :).

@joan: Take the test if you want to prove yourself, check your knowledge or if you really like taking the tests. Otherwise learn from the online course and im sure it will help you in understanding Google Analytics a bit better which may help you in your business.

Hi Paul, congrats on passing the test. I just took it on Friday and was able to pass with a 90%. While I use GA all day, I spent the extra time watching the videos on ConversionUniversity.com, and also read through a list of overview notes I found online. I also found it extremely helpful to have GA open with a few accounts (at least one with ecommerce) so I could hop into the reports if I wasn’t sure.
The area I found most difficult was around the different JavaScript calls that I wasn’t familiar with, some of the profile features, and in general the structure of some to the questions (ex. choose all that apply…it makes you think through each answer darn it!)
I’m in the process now of going over the material to teach my guys the info so they can take the test as well (when you’re done with the test it only tells you areas you should focus on and doesn’t divulge which questions you missed)
The next focus is around getting the GAAC certification…one step at a time

Finished my test yesterday. It’s a bummer we don’t get a badge. I am now looking for work in this area and it would be nice if I had something to show! Was thinking of listing it here http://galearning.com/gaiq-request.php

Hi Pawel,
Thank you for this post. I would like to ask you something. I am planning to take the test but the other day I came accross a blog about Analytics and lots of people were complaining about the test. For instance, see this comment:
“Agreed. If not already in the works, we need a logo to display. If I have to say I got my Google Analytics Individual Qualification in text only, I might as well just call myself a Google Analytics Expert and save my $50.”
You mentioned that after passing the test you got a PDF certificate. Do you think this is good enough to prove (let’s say to a potential employer) that you are a Google Analytics expert?
Thanks,
Carlos

Congratulations on passing the test! Would you say it was particularly difficult?
Aside from the knowledge that you get from studying for it, would you say that the certification is worth the time and $50? Do you think employers look at it?
