A search engine in the year 2008

The best search engine with most performed searches per month and biggest market share is Google. Almost everyone knows this brand and uses Google search engine to find information on the Internet. Yahoo! has more relevant search results, but still more people use Google.

Search engines of year 2008 learn how to index Flash files in a limited way. They fight with spam in their indexes. They start to develop video indexing algorithms and converting them to text.

Search engine of year 2008 is mostly focused on text information on websites. Its algorithms try to emulate humans behavior to serve the most relevant search results. Search engines also start to create more advanced customized search results based on user preferences, search history and online activity.

A search engine in the year 2054

Im on the train and i didnt take my laptop with me. I am traveling to Denver, where i have never been before and i dont know where to eat there. But im not worried at all. Last year search engines have learned how to respond via phone, so i take my cell phone and call Google.

I ask: “Where can i eat great pizza in Denver?”.

I dont have to wait any minutes. A nice young women voice answers immediately: “The best place to eat pizza in Denver is Two Fisted Mario’s Pizza at 1626 Market St, Denver, CO 80202, tel. (303) 623-3523.”

Thats great. Now i know where can i eat.

“Would you like to know how to get there?” - the voice asks.

“Yes, please” - i answer.

“Your current location shows that you are 12 miles south-west from Denver on a train number 176 that will arrive to Denver main train station at 12.08 CST. From the train station you need to take bus number 124 and travel 12 bus stops which should take about 29 minutes in total. When you leave the bus turn left and walk for 100 feet’s ahead. You will see the pizza sign in front of you. Thank you for using Google search engine. Would you like to save those directions into Google maps on your phone for later viewing?” - says the women voice.

“Yes, i would like to save it”.

“Message saved”.

Now i can see visual route to the pizza place on my phone. How clever. I get hungry already, so pizza is the first thing im going to do after arrival.

Far, far away…search engine in the year 2101

Search engines have learned how to create customized search results based on users mood, day of the week, hour of the day, current users weather and past behavior. Using this data enables search engines to serve absolutely customized search results to everyone. Meaning you and me will see completely different results while sitting next to each other and searching for the same thing.

Search Engine Optimization industry had to focus on long tail results to maintain delivery of targeted traffic to client websites in order to minimize the impact of the fact that every user sees different results. Now getting into number one in any search engine means nothing as everyone sees different number one page in their customized results.

PDF documents, JavaScript, Flash and video and audio files have been made fully indexable at the same level as text. Search engine indexes consist of more than 100 billion websites. Number of Internet users tripled for the last 75 years. Search engines are still major source of finding information online thought.

Search engines have developed significantly. Now you dont need an open web browser to search on Internet. Just use your microphone and ask a question. A search engine will present you with available results using the voice of your choice. Do you like Morgan Freeman? Search engine can talk with his voice, wow!

Sing a song and you will get a full discography of a singer. You forgot words of a song. Search engine will show you the lyrics of any song accompany with karaoke version for you to continue singing.

While looking for a plugin or any software you dont need to know its name. Just copy and paste the source code of any plugin or copy the executive program and search engine will show you a list of similar plugins and programs based on code analysis.

Insert a picture into a search engine or a song file and you will be shown a list of similar items. Entering a video into a search engine will result in showing similar video but not based on its description but on people in the video. A search engine will analyze the video, extract the actors (people shown in the video) and present you a list of other videos with the same actors.

Looking for a book have never been easier. Start reading at any point of the book and search engine will find the book, list of authors, places to buy the book on the Internet and in local bookstore, similar book titles and so on. If you liked one book you may also like other books of the same author. Recommendations, your friends that read this book, all social data is implemented into search results.

Search engines of the future are using mixed advanced semantic and mathematic algorithms to present most relevant information. “Who am i friends with” will download your whole social data from all networks you are member and present it to you in a proper manner. It will show on the map where you friends are located, how to reach them and all other necessary information.

Search engines will mix all languages into one making even more information available. You can of course always switch to local search engine version with one click.

The future of search engines

This is just an example of how the future of search engines and search industry might look like. Search market is fast growing and evolving every day industry. Its future looks brighter than ever. It still has many undeveloped spaces thought and so much more to offer. We have to wait and see.
