Cuil, a new search engine and new competition to Google claims to index more than 120 billion web pages. It also claims to have more accurate and relevant search results than any other search engine. So let’s check it out.
Simple test:
Type in “Google” into both search engines and check the number of results. The search engine with bigger index size should show more relevant web pages.
Results:
Verdict:
Google seems to index more web pages than Cuil search engine as it shows more possible result pages.
The same results (in favor of Google) for other search queries, such as “seo”, “iPhone” or “dogs”. Google seems to hold more relevant websites than Cuil.
Even for “Cuil” search query Google is winning by showing 629,000 relevant web pages, while Cuil presents just 124,737 results. What is more surprising, for this search query Google is showing www.cuil.com website at first place, while cuil is NOT present on first, second or even third results page at www.cuil.com (im not intending to spend my whole evening looking at which results page they show up).
Yes, Cuil is not showing at www.cuil.com! They cant find themselves hihi. It’s like if Google could not find www.google.com website.
Isn’t that weird? And Cuil claims to show more relevant results than Google.
[Update] Apparently the problem with not showing cuil website on search results has been repaired. Now Cuil website is on 1st and 2nd place for “Cuil” search query in cuil search engine.
I must apologize for not mentioning about that before. I should have published this post when i wrote it (on 29th of July) and not today. Sorry for that delay.

I have done several test on Cuil, and am extremely unimpressed. I am now just waiting for other news to bury the mention of Cuil.

I think everyone was expecting something more than this from Cuil.
There are 3 ways: neither we were expecting too much or Cuil has nothing to offer. The third one is that it’s full potential still hasn’t been developed and it needs time to fulfill our expectations.
For the time being i agree with Rob that Cuil doesn’t impress me so much.
