Pawel Szulencki Search Engine Optimization/Marketing blog.
Welcome back! Thanks for sticking by.
SearchCloud is a new search engine launched on July 17, 2008. Its search approach is different than the ones of Google and Yahoo! User may type in many keywords and attach relevancy to each of them simply by increasing or decreasing its font size. The font size is indicator of importance of a keyword.
Each keyword is placed in a search cloud where user may edit each keyword separately or change the importance of a keyword.
That kind of search engine approach should be beneficial for the user as by giving the search engine tips on what exactly are you looking for, the search engine should present more customized and relevant search results.
By typing “buy” in big font size and “Apple iPod” in smaller sizes you should get a list of shops where you can purchase Apple iPod and other Apple products.
Results: first 3 listings were online shops with possibility to buy AppleiPod’s.
I guess SearchCluod has some potential and search results are satisfyingly relevant.
Other search queries seems to work pretty good too. It’s not perfect, but it’s not also rubbish. They definietely have work more on user experience and relevancy.
SearchCloud.net is using Yahoo! search results filtered through BOSS platform that enables them to reorder Yahoo! search results. It’s a new Yahoo! product that enables developers to manipulate Yahoo! search results in a way that has been impossible before. SearchCloud is not the only startup search engine that is trying to use Yahoo! technology and probably not the last one.
How to use SearchClound? Here’s a short video:
